Detailed description of Links At Gettysburg

Links At Gettysburg is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

The Links At Gettysburg first opened for play in 1999. The course was designed by Lindsay Ervin.

This course is nestled in the rolling Pennsylvania hillside. The course enjoys scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the rolling terrain gives way to wide open fairways. The generous, very undulating greens are receptive and play very true. Several of the greens are cut directly from the surrounding red-rock cliffs, including #3, an 187-yard, par 3.  This hole features a dramatic change in elevation from the tee to green, and a 35-foot cliff serves as a dramatic backdrop.undulating greens are receptive and play very true.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 7,031 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,861 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 7, a par-5 that plays to 600 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 12, a par-3 that plays to 163 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 7, the 600-yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 12, the 163 yard par-3.

#3, an 187-yard par 3 is the signature hole. You hit from an elevated tee to a large undulating green that fronts a red rock cliff. Hit the ball too far and you'll find the large trap in front of the cliff. Leave it short and you'll hit the creek in front of the green.

#7 is a 600 yard par-5, with large lake water hazards left and right, guarding a narrow fairway.

#13, 14 and 15 are The Links at Gettysburg’s “Amen Corner” equivalent.

#13 is a 450 yard par 4 guarded by a large lake to the left and a river to the right. Keep it straight and you'll have a chance to hit the green in regulation, but the large undulating surface makes 3 putts very possible.

#14 is a 589-yard par 5 with a river running the length of the hole on the left. Keep it right and you'll have a chance for par if you can avoid the greenside bunkers.

#15 is the longest par 3 on the course, 233 yards from the tips to a large trap guarded green with water running down the left side of the hole and trees to the right. Play it right to avoid the water and use enough club to reach the green.

#18 is a shorter par 5 and an eagle opportunity, but only if you can avoid the ponds on the left and right and three bunkers that guard the left side of the green. A large red rock wall lines the back of the green with the clubhouse above, presenting the opportunity for a dramatic finish to a friendly gallery.

This updates my previous review. Our group of travelling seniors played here on CB Day (10-4-16, Good Buddy), for $30 with Tee Time book.

The course is challenging, and a big bite for seniors (slope is 134 from the Sr. tees!).

Conditions today were HORRIBLE. Cart Path Only due to soggy fairways, due to poor drainage, and overseeding due to a disease on many fairways. Large bare patches everywhere. Lift, clean, and place have no value if there is nowhere to place!

Much as we like the course (it's a love-hate relationship), we won't be back until the conditions are improved.

Recommend you not use on-line tee times: call the pro shop and double-check with the staff about course conditions before committing. Also, another minor annoyance, the phone system auto-attendant script is really aggravating and not golfer-friendly: too much scripting about weddings and events, vice golf. Caveat emptor!!

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I wouldn't recommend this course

Great price via their birthday club. Also have the Tee Time Golf Pass which would have been about $40. Course was in really good condition especially considering the weather we had this summer. Greens are quite fast, so if you don't like that, play elsewhere.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Ranks with the best in this price level, Best course in the area, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

Our group of travelling seniors played here 9-30-08 for $40, which is a great price for a course of this quality.

The layout takes full advantage of the terrain: lots of elevation change, especially on the front nine, and plenty of water, especially on the back.

Course is not walkable, in my view: long distances between greens and tees and many hills. Conditions were excellent. Because of wet conditions, we were restricted to cart path only yesterday, so it was VERY SLOW...

Some very interesting holes, starting with the first, a downhill, dogleg par 4, with a pretty good carry across a creek and a stone wall on the second shot. #3 is a medium length downhill par 3 over a rocky creek/marsh to a green right in front of a red rock wall: it is a beautiful golf hole. Scenery is spectacular on several other holes too, including #8, #12, and #18. The back side is much flatter than the front, and has lots of parallel water, on #13, 14, 15, 17, and 18: these holes are actually pretty boring compared to the rest of the course.

The scorecard doesnt give much help on the layout, so first-time players might want to buy a yardage book, or hook up with someone who has gone around before. We play here about once or twice a year, so we kinda know it, but there is still lots of trouble...and we managed to find most of it! It is a difficult course, so if you do not hit them straight, plan on investing in golf balls.

Clubhouse is nice, and the staff was congenial. The course is nominally in Gettysburg, but it is really well out in the country, and can be a little diffult to find: make sure you have directions before setting out. Also, the course gets a fair amont of group play, so call ahead to ensure you can get on. Excellent, challenging track: we recommend it!

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
